Though the new Type Covers launched alongside the new Surface Pro were working just fine with Surface Pro 4, Microsoft has rolled out a new firmware update for Surface Pro 4 to ensure improved reliability and compatibility of Pro 4 with the new Type Covers.

The new update that appears as “Surface – Keyboard – 1.1.504.0” notes TypeBoard.com. The update is rolling out now via Windows Update for Surface Pro 4 users. Based on the information that Microsoft provides on its site, there are no changes related to security, connectivity, performance or battery life. There’s no sign of a similar update for the Surface Pro 3 just yet. Still, even without a new firmware update, the new Type Covers should work on the Surface Pro 3 just fine.

The new Type Covers may look very similar to the previous models, though the new accessories should provide a better typing experience thanks to a new scissor mechanism and a full 1.3 mm of key travel between the keys. Moreover, the trackpad has also been improved with better gesture support and accuracy.

When Microsoft announced the Surface Pro in May it also unveiled a couple of new Type Covers to go along with its latest Windows 10 hybrid device. And, now, the software giant is making sure that the keyboards work with the Surface Pro 4 as well.

Another thing pointed out by the report is the prices at which the Surface Pro 4 is being offered on Amazon. The Microsoft Surface Pro 4 (256 GB, 16 GB RAM, Intel Core i7e) is being offered at a 31% discount while the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 (256 GB, 8 GB RAM, Intel Core i7e) is being offered at 32% discount.
